The Allen Law Firm is honored to represent a local family experiencing unimaginable loss after a tragic accident claimed the lives of a young mother and her 4-year-old daughter. Following a snowstorm, their car veered off a rural road in King William County, where the absence of a protective guardrail turned a survivable accident into a fatal one.

Attorney Scott Fitzgerald is working closely with the family to bring attention to the dangers of this stretch of road and advocate for changes that could save lives in the future. The family, driven by a desire to prevent others from enduring such heartbreak, have bravely shared their story with NBC12.

In Fitzgerald’s and the family’s initial interview with NBC12, the family described their pain and called for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to install proper safety barriers. NBC12’s full interview can be viewed here.

Following NBC12’s first interview airing, VDOT has since reviewed the area and is now planning to install a guardrail—a small but critical step in improving the road’s safety. NBC12 came back to the Allen & Allen office to follow up with Fitzgerald and the family. You can view the follow-up segment here

This is not the first time attorney Scott Fitzgerald has fought to raise awareness about the importance of safe and reliable guardrails. In 2015, he spoke about the dangers of defective Trinity ET-Plus guardrails. Fitzgerald’s advocacy, featured on WRIC-TV, highlighted the serious consequences when guardrails fail to perform as intended. View the story here

Allen & Allen believes legal advocacy is about more than the courtroom—it’s about making our communities safer. Scott Fitzgerald and our firm remain committed to supporting the family through this process and continuing to advocate for meaningful change to prevent future tragedies.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and stand with them in their efforts to raise awareness about the importance of roadway safety. This case is a reminder that preventative measures—like installing guardrails—can mean the difference between life and death.
