For those who haven’t heard of it, Comfort Zone Camp is providing a vital service to children in Central Virginia. They are a bereavement organization that transforms the lives of children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, primary caregiver, or significant person. There is no fee for their services.
Allen & Allen is proud to support such a noteworthy organization and presented a $1,000 check to 2019 Hometown Hero Lynne Hughes, the founder and CEO. Hughes has been instrumental in building a network of employees and volunteers, all dedicated to healing children who have lost a loved one. Together, they create trust-building activities and age-based support groups that break the emotional isolation so commonly associated with grief.
On the day Allen & Allen arrived, Comfort Zone Camp with buzzing with activity. The foundation was preparing for summer camp, and the walls were lined with camp supplies, crafts, and board games. Summer associate Ashley Peck presented the check, as she was a past camper and frequent volunteer.
“As a former camper turned volunteer, my favorite part of Comfort Zone Camp is watching the growth and resilience of the campers year after year. Comfort Zone Camp creates a safe space for grieving children and teaches them how to navigate their losses in a positive way. It creates a place where these children no longer feel isolated or different because they have lost a family member, which is something I am honored to be a part of,” said Peck.
This donation is part of our giving initiative Allen & Allen Cares: Helping our Heroes. We’ve honored hundreds of Hometown Heroes over the years, and many are tied to admirable charities. Our firm chooses a top-of-mind issue, and donates $1,000 to charities with a similar focus, honoring our Hometown Heroes in the process.
