For the 11th year Allen & Allen has provided an incentive not to drink and drive on New Year’s Eve – a sober ride home. For NYE 2024 we are partnering with Lyft to distribute nearly 600 passes for $25 off a Sober Ride Home on New Year’s Eve. Since launching the program, Allen & Allen has helped over 2,000 individuals get home safely and spent an estimated $52,000 on ride fare.

“By offering a reliable sober ride home this holiday season, we can help make our communities safer,” says Jason Konvicka, President of the Allen Law Firm. “For over a century, we’ve been standing up for the injured, including victims of drunk driving. Please, never drink and drive.”

This year, we are making it easier than ever to get a ride home by giving away Lyft Passes every Friday in December. To receive a pass, simply follow Allen & Allen on Instagram (@allenandallenlaw), where a link to a Sober Ride Home survey will be posted in our Instagram Stories.

The survey will ask for your name and email address, and after completing it, you will receive a unique code via email on Friday afternoon. This pass can be used to cover up to $25 off your Lyft ride from 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until 6 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

Please remember, drunk driving is dangerous.

The dangers of driving under the influence are obvious to most drivers, however, those who choose to drink and drive will certainly be sobered by the horrifying facts of DUI statistics that highlight the extreme risks of drinking and driving. If a driver in the metro Richmond area has a crash, there is a 61% chance they will be injured and a 3% chance they will die. In fact, over 50% of all fatal accidents in the Richmond metropolitan area were alcohol-related. These other harrowing statistics from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) should discourage driving under the influence:

  • In the U.S., 28 people die every day in drunk driving accidents.
  • Men are statistically more likely to drink and drive than women.
  • In the U.S., 1 out of every 139 drivers is arrested annually for driving under the influence.
  • Roughly 3 out of every 10 Americans will be in an alcohol-related traffic accident.
  • Over 40% of the total number of traffic fatalities each year are alcohol-related.
  • Each year, Americans take over 159 million alcohol-impaired driving trips. Over 10% of these trips are made by drivers under the legal drinking age.
  • 50% to 75% of convicted drunk drivers continue to drive on a suspended license.
  • A drunk driver has driven drunk an average of 80 times before their first arrest.
  • Every two minutes someone is injured in a drunk driving accident.
  • Nationally 21 to 25-year-olds have the highest rates of drinking and driving (23.4%).
  • One-third of drivers who are convicted or arrested for DUI are repeat offenders.
