The American Association for Justice (AAJ) held its annual convention in Nashville, Tennessee last weekend. Members of The Allen Law Firm were there to learn, celebrate, and welcome new attorneys into leadership positions within the organization.
Attorney Derrick Walker made history as the first Virginia trial attorney to be elected into the parliamentarian position. On Sunday, July 21, a party was held at L27, a rooftop party space with sweeping views of Nashville. Colleagues and trial attorneys from across the country gathered to celebrate Derrick’s new appointment. This was a family affair, as his wife and daughters were in tow. In fact, many attorneys brought their families to Nashville for the convention.
Attorney Bridget Long was elected Chair of the Women Trial Lawyers Caucus (WTLC), and her term officially began at the convention. Providing continuing legal education and a mentoring program for its female members, the organization has grown to over 4,500 members. Prior to this position, Bridget served on WTLC’s board of governors for many years.
Attorney James Kessel was elected Chair of the Motor Vehicle Liability Section. With over 3,500 members, this section also encompasses multiple litigation groups. He was also elected to the executive committee of the Bus Litigation Group. In addition, James organized and moderated the Motor Vehicle Liability Section’s Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program.
Attorney Courtney Winston acquired a new title within AAJ as well. She was named a Minority Caucus Representative to the Board of Governors. This networking group focuses on education, fundraising, and public service for minorities working within the legal field.
Firm shareholder and president Jason Konvicka concluded his term as president of the Melvin M. Belli Society. It was made official at the annual reception and dinner in Nashville. The Belli Society is an invitation-only group of plaintiff’s personal injury attorneys from across the nation. They gather each year to share knowledge and insight regarding trial advocacy.
Attorney Ashley Davis spoke during the convention, presenting Using Motions Successfully in Auto Cases to the Motor Vehicle Litigation Section.
In all, the firm had a wonderful time. People came away with fresh knowledge, new connections, and for some, big responsibilities! Please join us in congratulating all the lawyers elevated to leadership positions within the American Association for Justice!
