Allen & Allen visited Georgia’s Friends in Charlottesville to provide a charitable donation toward their worthy cause. Attorney Kari La Fratta visited the team to learn more about the important work they’re doing, and to present the check.

Georgia’s Friends provides a safe, therapeutic home for women suffering from addiction and co-occurring mental health challenges. Georgia’s House is a safe home for women in the early stages of recovery, while Georgia’s Cottage is a bridge to the community, offering programming that supports women in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area. Georgia’s Friends is a dedicated network of donors, volunteers, civic leaders, and health and human services experts who help these women work toward their recovery.
The charity is named after Jane “Georgia” Avary Barbour who passed away from the effects of alcoholism. In 2006, her friends gathered and created Georgia’s Friends in her honor. In 2018, Allen & Allen recognized the charity’s founder and president Dorothy Tomkins, and named her a Hometown Hero.
The charitable donation provided by the firm is part of the giving initiative Allen & Allen Cares: Helping Our Heroes. Allen & Allen chooses a top-of-mind issue facing our communities and awards $1,000 donations to current or former Hometown Heroes that are affiliated with organizations tackling those issues.
