Allen & Allen makes Virginia history: $47.5 million for single plaintiff

Location: Confidential
Injuries: Catastrophic Injuries
Settlement: $47,500,000

The Allen Law Firm secured, what was at the time, the largest single-plaintiff settlement in Virginia history, totaling $47.5 million.

No portion of this settlement was structured. Upon information and belief, prior to this case, the largest personal injury case brought on behalf of a single plaintiff in Virginia resolved for $30 million.

Attorneys P. Christopher Guedri and Trent S. Kerns represented the plaintiff, a young person injured in an automobile accident through no fault of their own.

The injuries were catastrophic, including, among others: a burst fracture of their fourth thoracic vertebrae, a functional severance of their spinal cord at that level, resulting paraplegia, and a traumatic brain injury. The plaintiff had incurred medical expenses, as of the date of the mediation, of approximately $1.2 million. The plaintiff’s Life Care Plan had a present value of approximately $8 million.

Thanks to the compassionate advocacy on behalf of Allen & Allen, the plaintiff will experience an improved quality of life.

As the case was resolved on terms of strict confidentiality, no further information can be publicly disclosed.
